Marhaba New Moon

A Poem to Greet the New Moon of the Month of Ramadan

Marhaba New Moon! You could not have come too soon,
Praise He Who said, “wa kullun fee falakin yasbahoon”

Marhaba New Moon,

Bringer of Good News and Cheer, that Ramadan is finally here!
Lord, grant us ease in drawing near, Peace and Blessings on Basheer.

Marhaba New Moon,

Luminescent glowing crescent, in the sky shining pleasant,
Beautiful, radiant, yet evanescent, announcing “The month of dhikr is present!”

Marhaba New Moon,

Celestial indication, from the Lord of all creation,
Of a month whose parts are Forgiveness, Mercy, and Salvation.

Marhaba New Moon,

Through Allah’s Grace, things coincide, just like your movement with the tide,
Or like this month when ‘ilm’s applied, good deeds are raised and multiplied!

Marhaban New Moon,

Begins the quest for Laylatul QadrSalaamun till its end,
Better than a thousand months, the Angels, and the Rooh descend!

Marhaba New Moon,

What a time for goodly gains, by now Shaytans are locked in chains,
Let’s take our egos by the reigns, and subdue them too… with hunger pains.

Marhaba New Moon - your arrival marks the revival - of my heart.

I look beyond a world that wanes, then gallop ‘cross the spiritual plains,
Dhikrullah pumps through the veins, of a heart that’s cleansed from rusty stains.

Marhaba New Moon - your arrival marks the revival - of an Ummah.

Start of a nation-wide group dhikr, together we pray Taraweeh and Witr,
Ramadan’s Fast: an Islamic pillar! A spiritual feast, then ‘Eid-ul Fitr!

Marhaba New Moon

A blessing received for those who’ve believed, just like those of the past,
Fulfill the duty so taqwa’s achieved - may God accept our fast.

Marhaba New Moon

Your light reminds me of the one - whose heart was always fasting,
From all that was distracting from Allah: the Everlasting. (Sallallahu ‘alayh!)

Marhaba New Moon

As you travel through each phase, we will journey - to change our ways,
Peace and Blessings ‘alar-Rasool, and to Allah belongs the Praise.

Marhaba New Moon!
